Butterfly Nursery Decor

The nursery is where a baby sleeps, plays and spends a lot of time with his parents. Because of the amount of time spent in the room, decorating the nursery is important. As she grows, she'll begin to notice the things that surround her. The decor of the nursery should be comforting, relaxing and nice to look at. Butterflies are a soothing decor theme for a nursery that is appropriate for boys and girls.
Walls:
Nursery walls should be given a coat of lead-free paint. Select colors that go best with the furniture and theme of your butterfly decor. For example, if you'll be painting butterflies in flight, first paint your walls light sky blue as a background. Alternately, paint walls light pink, yellow or light green. On one wall, paint a mural of a field of flowers, then add construction-paper butterflies to give the wall a three-dimensional look. Put the butterflies up high enough that little hands can't get them. Or use a projector to light up the walls with butterfly images.
Refurbished Furniture:
To continue the theme, decorate the nursery's furniture with butterflies. Recycle an older child's bed or find a new bed at a yard sale or flea market. Wash down the bed and let it dry. Paint the frame in a light color such as white or cream. Stencil or decoupage butterflies all along the bed. Put a few on the inside so the baby can look at the butterflies. The same can be done with an old dresser.
Ceiling Butterflies:
Large nylon butterfly purchased from Bugs-n-Blooms can be hung from the ceiling using the included fishing string and eye hooks. Paint the hooks the same color as the ceiling so you can't see them. Spread the butterflies around so if the wind blows, the strings won't get tangled. Also keep them high enough off the ground that kids can't pull them or hurt themselves with them. Add some over the baby's bed in place of a mobile. Use butterflies in a variety of colors, styles at varied heights.

Fun Butterfly Room Decor Ideas

We have unlimited option of colors and patterns to create a Butterfly room decor because butterflies are so colorful. Any color is good for this theme room, even colors you've never see on real butterflies!
Now lets start with the walls ....
First, decide on what color the walls are gonna be for this butterfly room decor. If your Girl has a favorite color, use it. If she's too young to know what her favorite is, just pick any color you like.
Then look for two different shades of paint of that color, a lighter one and a darker one.
Even though any color suits this butterfly bedroom, but since it's a kid's room, it's best to choose colors that are not too dark for the walls. Also try to avoid too bright colors that are not comfortable for the eyes. Use dark and bright colors for accents only, for example to make butterfly wall murals
Measure up from the floor to the height of 1.1 meters and make a straight horizontal pencil line on the walls.  Put masking take right below the line and paint the upper area with the lighter wall paint. After the paint dries, take off the masking tape and place another right above the line and paint the lower area with the darker wall paint.
Other option for this butterfly room decor is to use Butterfly Wallpaper. Hunt for butterfly wallpaper that comes with the color you or your girl wants, or look for simple plain or striped wallpaper and add butterfly wallpaper border as accent.
Now we'll continue this butterfly room decor by filling up the room with furniture. Since butterflies are identical with nature, it's a good idea to use wooden brown furniture for this butterfly theme room. To make the room even more alive, use wood paints to paint.
Now lets decorate the bed ...
For the bedding, look for Butterfly Bedding Set with colors that match the wall's background colors.
Other option to tone down the room a little bit if you think the room is already too crowded with butterflies is to use plain white bed sheet, plain or striped pillow shams with any soft pastel colors, and then add a
Decorating the rest of the room ...
Now we have done most part of this butterfly room decor and we'll just add some accessories to finish the room. Here are some butterfly room decorations ideas:
  • Kids love to play on the floor so rug is an important accessory to add. Pick a Butterfly Rug with colors that match the room's main colors. Soft colored Shaggy Rug will do great too.
  • Use Butterfly Frame or Flowers Frame for any picture you want to put in the room.
  • Put a butterfly lamp beside the bed.
  • Add a wooden wastebasket with pastel color that suits the room. Paint your Girl's initial on it and add some scattered small flowers around the initial.
  • Hang some Paper or Nylon Butterflies from the ceiling. Hang it at various heights to make it look natural.
  • Use butterfly themed switch plates instead of a plain one.

Wedding Decorating Ideas - Table Centerpieces

Creating A Wedding Centerpiece is Easy! Here's How:

1. Start by selecting an attractive clear glass container for the centerpiece. Here, an elevated bowel on a glass pedestal was used, but feel free to use a more standard style of bowl for equally lovely effects.
2. Fill the container with fresh water.
3. Select your floating candles.
4. Place the floating candles in the water. To mimic the look in the photo, crowd the candles in the container - for this particular container, four candles was about all it could hold, and we crammed them in! If you prefer a different look, use fewer candles.
5. It's the rose petals that really cap off the look in this particular centerpiece design and give it that super-romantic, super-soft visual effect. Just place the petals on water and around the candles, and be sure to also sprinkle them on the table, around the centerpiece to finish that wonderful setting!

Butterflies flutter and float gracefully atop a pretty bowl of water in this mesmerizing table centerpiece design - More of the magic which can be created simply with the use of floating candles! Use the butterfly candles on their own, or combine with floral floating candles to create additional interest within the design. Consider combining with floating candles, a perfect compliment to the look with their delicate petals.  Perhaps the most popular variety of orchid, and is known as the 'butterfly orchid" because its delicate petals resemble the wing of a butterfly, unfolding in velvety color.

Bowls of flowers and floating candles make a very pretty presentation for table centerpieces, and have the added benefit of being extremely easy to assemble. Pictured above, pastel colors set the perfect tone for a spring wedding. A large silk floral bloom is immersed in an elegant clear glass bowl. In keeping with the floral theme, four floating rose-shaped candles in a combination of pastel colors float on the surface of the water. The arrangement is placed on the center of the table atop a table runner in coordinating pastel mauve. To add to the look, small flower pots of votive candles surrounded by pastel roses are placed in alternating positions along the center of the rectangular table, on both sides of the floating candle display. For a final finishing touch, faux rose petals are scattered delicately around the table.

Butterfly Releases for Weddings

Planning a wedding, whether it involves 50 people or 500 people, can be a stressful time. You want your guests to remember your wedding as a day filled with happiness and enchantment.
One unique effect can be achieved through a live butterfly release.  As a beautiful and environmentally-sound alternative to blowing bubbles, throwing rice or birdseed or releasing balloons, a butterfly release will make your day memorable!  Can you imagine the magnificence of dozens of colorful butterflies winging their way skyward as a grand finale to your wedding ceremony?  The release of nature’s prettiest creatures is a symbolic way to celebrate any number of occasions, including weddings, proms, parties, and quinceneras.  Butterflies have always been thought of as bringing good luck to people and everyone loves butterflies.

One way to involve your guests is to have a “butterfly attendant” hand out the envelopes in which the butterflies are temporarily kept.  When the signal is given, each person opens their envelopes and the butterflies fly out to create a magnificent display.  Some butterflies, especially monarchs, may alight on your guests.  When released, they have a slow and graceful flight.  They are actually “social butterflies!”
On a smaller scale, butterflies can be used as table centerpieces, enclosed in elegant see-through “cages” where they flutter about until time for their release. Guests are always enchanted by this distinctive and unusual display of beauty.
Butterflies are carefully raised by farmers, who then package them in small Styrofoam coolers before shipping them overnight to your door.  Since they are cold-blooded, they are resting and dormant while in the cooler.  Exposure to warm temperatures will make them active and ready to fly.  They must be released outdoors during daylight and during months where the temperatures are high enough for them to fly ~ above 60 degrees.  Care of the butterflies is minimal; you just keep the container cool for a night by refreezing and replacing the cold pack that comes with each shipment.  Very few butterflies expire before their release and usually one or more “extras” are included in your order.  Most butterfly farmers hold permits to ship several species across state lines. The butterflies you release will be indigenous to your state and will most probably live for a few weeks, finding each other after they are released, mating and helping to repopulate the species.
A butterfly farmer will help you choose the butterflies that are right for your state, your budget and your special occasion.

Making Butterfly Decor for a Nursery

Planning Your Theme
Butterfly themed nurseries are all the rage for a newborn girl's room. The colors of this theme are shades of pinks, purples, greens and delicate yellows. These hues can evoke a sense of new life and vitality. Choosing fabrics depending on what pieces you will be sewing, you can choose from an endless array of fabrics when making bedding, window treatments, wall hangings, pillows and cushions for your new room. After you have picked your colors and fabrics, you can use a piece of each one to make a baby quilt. You may choose to keep the background solid, use the different fabrics to make the butterfly's wings and body and then sew them to the quilt. Matching butterflies can be made to use for wall hangings and pillows.

Walls
Wall colors can be decided upon by taking one or two shades from the fabrics. For a simple border idea, buy inexpensive butterfly-shape sponges from a craft store and dip them in various colors of paint that match the bedding. Stamp them up along the border of the walls. These can be easily painted over as the child grows and the decor in the room changes. Removable wall decals are also a popular and inexpensive option.

Finishing Touches
A wooden toy chest, a rocking chair stenciled with butterflies and flowers and a butterfly-shape rug will finish off the room nicely.

Ideas for Decorating a Bathroom with a Butterfly Theme

Create a Butterfly Theme Bathroom with a little creativity

Do you love butterflies? How about decorating your bathroom with a butterfly theme? The bathroom is the ideal location to experiment with a decorating theme, and the options for decor and endless. Best of all, bathroom decor in a butterfly theme does not have to come from an expensive home decor store. Save money while decorating and consider the following unique ideas for decorating a bathroom with a butterfly theme. Using photos, felt, peel and stick decals, shells, craft paint, and a little creativity, you can have a bathroom with a beautiful butterfly theme, and without spending a small fortune on decorating accessories.
Decorate a Shower Curtain with Beautiful Butterflies
Pre-made shower curtains embellished with butterflies are not cheap. A matter of fact, shower curtains that match specific themes can be quite expensive. Buy a plain fabric shower curtain in a solid color of your choice, and purchase a variety of lightweight nylon butterflies and hand sew or use double sided tape to adhere to the curtain. Trace around the butterfly or draw them freehand. Arrange the various colors and designs, and top the finished butterflies with glass beaded details. They will look outstanding and far more unique than anything available in stores.

    Peel and Stick Butterfly Decals
Decals are a great decorating option for those that want affordable decorating options. Purchase butterfly wall sticker decals, and place them sparingly around the corner of a bathroom door frame, on a corner of the mirror, or on tiles along the sink back splash. Less is more when decorating with any subject or theme, and a few peel and stick butterfly decals can add color while adding to the theme.  To add a bit of variety, you can also use some ladybug wall stickers, or bee stickers and create an adorable garden themed bathroom.  Quick and easy way to decorate any girls bathroom; simply peel and stick and the best part is they are removable so if you want to change them you can with ease.

    Personalize Your Babys Nursery

Decorators can personalize a baby’s butterfly nursery with adorable handprint butterflies for each month of the new baby’s life. This easy project can be completed in a matter of minutes and will be a great addition to the scrap book once the nursery theme changes.
    1. Trace each of the baby’s hand prints on two colors of construction paper.
    2. Cut out the two sets of hand prints.
    3. Paste them onto card stock or mat board, one color for the upper wings, and the other color for the lower wings.
    4. Draw a butterfly body with antenna, then cut and paste to complete the picture.
Parents can help toddlers and older kids personalize the butterfly room by making beautiful tissue paper butterflies to add depth to the bedroom’s walls, and brighten the windows.
    1. Stack two pieces of construction paper on top of each other and fold in half.
    2. While the paper is still folded, cut one side of wings then unfold to reveal a symmetrical butterfly.
    3. Refold the butterflies and cut shapes from the wings as if making a paper snowflake.
    4. When finished, paste colored tissue paper or tin foil pieces on the backside of one butterfly to show through the patterns cut into the wings.
    5. When all the holes are filled, paste the second construction paper butterfly over the tissue paper to finish off the back.
    6. Fold a piece of pipe cleaner in half and twist together over the middle of the wings.
    7. Curl the tops of the pipe cleaner to form antenna then tie fishing line for hanging.
Parents and kids will also enjoy scoping out a bunch of butterfly illustrations from magazines and picture books at the used book store. They can clip favorite photos with their child and use the pictures to decoupage accent pieces for the room such as pencil cans, plaques for the wall, a table and chairs, or nightstand. Touches like these make a butterfly theme room feel special and fill it with happy memories.

Butterfly Birthday Party Theme - Butterfly Wings

    Invitations
Send out butterfly shaped cards or plain white cards with butterfly stickers.  For fun tie butterfly shaped cards (with party information) onto curling ribbon and attach to a helium balloon. The invitation will seem to “fly” below the helium balloon.

    Butterfly Party Decorations
Cut out large butterfly wings from colored paper and attach to Styrofoam bodies. Paint the bodies and add antennae and eyes - then hang from the ceiling with fishing line.
Cut green crepe paper streamers into 8 - 10” lengths - cut the strips into different lengths - and tape one end to tables so they hang down and look like grass.
On the birthday cake or present table cover the top of the table with a sunny yellow tablecloth. Make large colorful flower petals out
of construction paper or poster board and then tape the petals around the outside of the table to make a flower.
Add large artificial flowers all over the room (we’ve found super size flowers at the dollar store that were 12” wide).
Blow up helium balloons and tie them with long strings of curling ribbon. Attach butterflies, dragonflies or any flying bug to the end of the curling ribbon. Let the balloons float to the ceiling and the butterflies and bugs will “fly” around the party area.

    Fun Ideas
Gather or buy cheap colorful silk scarves and let the party guests pretend they are flying using them as wings.
Set up a bubble blower and let them fly through the bubbles and pop them.
    Butterfly Party Games
    • Butterfly Hunt
    • Buy butterfly nets and plastic butterflies (check the dollar store). Hide the butterflies all over the backyard (or inside the house) and have a butterfly hunt. Let them keep the butterfly net and the butterflies they find. Variation: Hide special butterflies around the yard which will earn the finder a special prize. Before the party buy several small items to use as prizes and assign them a number. On several of the butterflies that are hidden write a number that corresponds with the prize number. When a child finds a butterfly with a number they get the prize that matches that number.
    • Butterfly Cocoon TP Wrap
You’ll need 2 - 3 rolls of new toilet paper for each team.  Divide guests into teams of 3 to 4 players.  Each team chooses who will be the caterpillar (the one who gets wrapped up).  Give each team member - other then the caterpillar - a roll of toilet paper.   At the go signal teams have to wrap up their caterpillar in the toilet paper as quick as they can. The team that uses all of it’s toilet paper first wins. Hint: Use the cheap single rolls of toilet paper.)
    • Elphin Game
The store bought game that has an elephant who blows out butterflies from his trunk. Kids try and catch the butterflies with their nets. Lots of fun for younger children.
    • Butterfly Nature Scavenger Hunt
This is a fun game for the yard or park. Divide guests into 2 teams (or if there are more then 10 guests 3 - 4 teams).

    Activities
Make butterfly wings, or have them already pre-made or buy them and let the girls decorate the wings at the party.

Buy wooden butterfly shapes at the craft store. Let the girls paint them with glittery paint of all colors, then when dry they can stick on jewels. Place a magnet strip on the back for a pretty refrigerator magnet.

Bake cookies and cut them out with a butterfly cookie cutter. Let the guests decorate their butterflies with frosting, candies and writing gel. This can also take the place of a large cake.

Make fun antennae with headbands, pipe cleaners and pom pom balls. Let them take them home for a party favor.

    Food
Fun Jell-O jigglers cut with a cookie cutter into butterfly shapes.
    Sandwiches cut with cookie cutters.
    Honey Bee crackers.
Bow tie pasta - it looks like butterfly wings!
Cheese (cut with butterfly cookie cutter) and crackers.
Make dirt / garden cupcakes. Fill individual cupcake liners 1/2 way with chocolate pudding. Crush Oreo cookies and sprinkle them on top of the chocolate pudding to fill the liners. Place gummy worms in the cupcakes and a pretty plastic flower on top. This a also a fun activity for the party goers to make!

    Butterfly Party Favors
Butterfly or flower shaped lip gloss kits.
    Bright nail polish.
    Flower pens.
The butterfly wings, scarves or antennae can be given as the butterfly party favor.
    Butterfly nets.
Pretty decorated butterfly shaped cookies tied in cellophane.
    Bubbles

    Goody Bags
Canvas totes decorated with butterflies. Squares of netting wrapped around the party favors and tied with a pretty ribbon always makes a fun goody bag.

Plan The Perfect Baby Shower - Butterfly Diaper Cakes

Oh, so pretty!  Simple but elegant, this pink butterfly diaper cake for girls is absolutely gorgeous!  The diapers are not rolled, but fanned around a center core and wrapped in a dark pink ribbon edged in white.
A baby shower done all in pink and white would be amiss not to have this diaper cake as a baby shower centerpiece.  I think it’s the most graceful cake I’ve seen.

It would look wonderful on a pink table cloth, with pink and white balloons and Mylar baby balloons.  Add some bunches of white flowers, and a white and pink cake and you’re in business.
This butterfly diaper cake is made with 40 disposable diapers in two layers and topped with white knit baby booties with a bejeweled butterfly applique.
There’s also a baby t-shirt with the same butterfly applique which is the decoration you see for the second tier.
Pink confetti paper looks like sugar frosting on all of the layers and a simple, white bow graces the middle of the bottom tier.
The diaper cake comes wrapped in tulle.  Frankly, it’s just too pretty to pull apart, don’t you think?

Wall Decorating Ideas For Kids Bedrooms

We love  to add the personality we love when decorating kid’s rooms. There are so many ways to achieve this from painted wall stencils, wall decals, or kid’s wallpaper.

We challenged ourselves to come up with 10 designs for wall borders for girls’ rooms to help inspire your creativity so here goes….

    1) Flowers - OK. An easy one. But, there are so many ways to make this unique. Think pinks and purples for daisies and tulips. Think yellow for daisies, dandelions, and sunflowers. Vertical or horizontal borders make this the ultimate exercise in creativity. We love how the room pictured above from Wall to Wall Stencils creatively creates a border around a window.

    2) Butterflies – A stylish way to dress up her room without getting complicated. Envision butterflies around a mirror or a headboard or hanging from the ceiling or attaching to the walls.

    3) Insects - Add dragonflies, butterflies, ladybugs, and bees to your walls and paint an cute insect-themed border near the ceiling.

    4) Polka dots - A timeless decor element that can be simple and subtle or bold and cheery. Think different sized dots in the middle of the wall for a fun look for an older girl. Removable wall decals are a great solution for something less permanent than paint.

    5) Disney characters - Where would we be without Disney? Pooh, Ariel, Snow White, etc. Check Babies ‘R Us or Amazon for their wallpaper border selection for a Disney themed nursery or girl’s room.

    6) Ballet slippers - For the lovers of pink! Tiny toes tip toeing across the wall would add delightful detail to a pretty in pink room.

    7) Princesses - Crowns, magic wands, and colorful gems for your little princess.

    8) Fairies - Flitting across the wall with their cute wings and dainty look.

    9) Her Name - Emma or Emily? Sophia or Isabella? Whatever the beautiful name you have chosen for her, personalize her room with her name repeating across the wall in different colors.

    10) Suns and clouds - This fresh idea will bring smiles to your little girl every day as she wakes up basking in the sun. Use vinyl wall decals for decor that is easily removable.
